The Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 and IGCSE Biology (9-1) 0971 syllabus introduce students to the fundamental principles and processes of biology. The 2 IGCSE Biology sylabi are identical in terms of content, and they both develop scientific knowledge, understanding, and practical skills essential for further study and everyday life. The course is structured into several key topics:

  1. Characteristics and Classification of Living Organisms – features of life, classification systems, and use of keys.
  2. Cells – cell structure, functions, and cell division.
  3. Biological Molecules – carbohydrates, proteins, enzymes, and water.
  4. Movement In and Out of Cells – diffusion, osmosis, and active transport.
  5. Nutrition – plant and human nutrition, including diet and digestion.
  6. Respiration – aerobic and anaerobic respiration.
  7. Transport – transport in plants and humans (heart, blood, xylem, phloem).
  8. Coordination and Response – nervous system, hormones, and homeostasis.
  9. Reproduction – asexual and sexual reproduction in plants and humans.
  10. Genetics and Inheritance – chromosomes, DNA, and inheritance patterns.
  11. Variation and Selection – natural and artificial selection.
