The IGCSE Pakistan Studies course (0448) offers a comprehensive understanding of Pakistan’s history, culture, geography, and environment. It is divided into two components: Paper 1: History and Culture of Pakistan and Paper 2: The Environment of Pakistan.

Paper 1 focuses on the historical and cultural development of Pakistan. It covers the region’s rich Islamic heritage, the decline of the Mughal Empire, British colonialism, and the emergence of Muslim nationalism. Key political events, including the formation of the All-India Muslim League, the 1940 Lahore Resolution, and the role of leaders like Muhammad Ali Jinnah, are studied in depth. Students explore Pakistan’s early struggles after independence (1947–71), such as the refugee crisis, economic instability, and the separation of East Pakistan. The paper also examines cultural contributions in literature, art, religion, and society, emphasizing Pakistan’s diverse identity.

Paper 2 examines the geography and environment of Pakistan, highlighting both natural and human features. Topics include Pakistan’s physical geography—mountains, rivers, climate, and natural resources—along with population distribution and urbanization. Students learn about agriculture (irrigation, crops, farming methods), industry (cotton, sugar, cement, energy), transportation systems, and water management. Environmental issues like deforestation, pollution, and climate change are explored, along with sustainable solutions.

Throughout the course, students develop map skills, data interpretation, critical thinking, and analytical writing. The subject encourages understanding of Pakistan’s past and present, helping students make informed judgments and appreciate the country’s complexity.

Assessment involves structured and essay-style questions, map work, and case studies. The syllabus fosters civic awareness and prepares learners to engage thoughtfully with national and global issues.
